The Marian Award for Technology Excellence (MATE), a national award was instituted for the first time in the year 2015 to celebrate the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of the Metropolitan Bishop of the Latin Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram, Most Rev. Dr. M. Soosa Pakiam, Our Patron. In its first year, MATE saw participation from wide parts of the country from a variety of higher educational institutions. The same trend repeated in the second year which saw very tight competition among innovations that demanded judgment by the best people available.
The Grand Finale of Marian Award for Technology Excellence (MATE) 2016 was conducted at Bishop Benziger Hall on 3rd October 2016. As many as 8 teams from different educational institutions in and around the state fought it out on the final for the prestigious national award comprising a cash prize, a memento and certificate. The team from Sahrdaya College of Engineering, Thrissur won the first prize of Rs. 75,000/- for the project titled Smart Aid for Autistic Care; and the team from Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Trivandrum bagged the second prize of Rs. 25,000/- for the project titled Automatic Vehicle Control using Visible Light Communication
