DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES DURING 2025-26

• The IGS Student Chapter of Marian Engineering College successfully organized a Drawing Competition on December 5, 2025, on occasion of World Soil Day to raise awareness among Civil Engineering students about the importance of soil conservation and sustainable land use, with Kripa P. (S8) securing First Prize, and Akhilesh A (S6) sharing Second Place.
• As part of the Human Rights Day, the IGS Student Chapter of the Department of Civil Engineering, Marian Engineering College successfully organized a quiz competition for Civil Engineering students with A R Devdath and Devika Shaji (S8) emerged as first prize, Akhila R H and Naishana S S (S6) secured second prize and Al Ameen N and Anesh Varghese (S8)secured third prize.On 12th December 2025, Marian Engineering College, in association with AMETOS, successfully conducted Tech Talk on Modern survey technology, Mr.Remesh G., senior consultant at V institute delivered an insightful and informative session on advanced surveying tools, emerging methodology, and drone based applications.
• The Civil Engineering Association – AMETOS organized an Industrial Visit for S8 students on December 12, 2025. The visit to PREFAB construction at Technopark provided students with practical exposure to construction methods, real-time site practices, and project management.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES DURING 2024-25

• The Second International Conference in Civil Engineering for a Sustainable Planet (ICCESP 2024) was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Marian Engineering College, Trivandrum, Kerala, from 6^th to 8^th December 2024, in collaboration with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The conference, themed "Shaping a Sustainable Tomorrow," brought together distinguished researchers, industry professionals, and academics from across the globe to discuss innovative solutions and advancements in civil engineering.
• An Industrial visit was conducted to “Slaughter House” organized by AMETOS on 17^th October 2024 with S3 students
• An industrial visit was conducted to “Aruvikkara Treatment Plant” organized by AMETOS on 11^th October 2024 with S7 students
• Inauguration of Indian Plumbing association student chapter of Marian Engineering College on 18^th December 2024. Four office bearer was elected from first year Civil and Mechanical students.

•  A technical session and hands-on training was presented by Dr. Rani V. and Prof. Magi N S, Faculties of Department of Civil Engineering, MEC for the MCAP students on the topic “Introduction to Surveying” in association with AMETOS Students chapter
• A Sustainable Exhibition, Susto-expo’ 24 was conducted on 4^th November 2024 in collaboration with AMETOS Students Chapter at MEC
• A Hands-on-training and competition was conducted for S5 students with Oracle’s Primavera P6 software on 11^th November 2024 in collaboration with AMETOS students chapter.
• A technical session conducted on the topic "BIM enhanced management" on 24th January 2025 by Core Institute of Technology organized by AMETOS Student Chapter, Dept. Of Civil engineering, MEC
• A NACTET Scholarship test conducted for S8 Civil students on 28th January 2025 organised by National Council for Technology and Training in association with AMETOS Student Chapter of Dept of Civil engineering.
• A technical session conducted on "Introduction to BIM" on 28th January 2025 for S6 Civil students organized by INTER CAD in association with AMETOS Student Chapter of Dept. Of Civil engineering
• S4 Civil students visited Soil Analytical Laboratory, Parottukonam on 4th February 2025 organized by IGS Student Chapter of Dept of Civil engineering, MEC
• A technical talk conducted on "Precast Construction" on 7th February 2025 by Sandra S S and Devika Praveena Saji of S8CE as a part of their Industrial visit to Hyderabad in association with IEI and ASCE Student Chapters, Dept. Of Civil engineering.

• A session on “Exploring the potentials of TEKLA STRUCTURES” conducted by Adarsh M S, Sr BIM Application Engineer on 18^th February 2025 in association with AMETOS & IGS Student Chapters
• An Industrial visit to Prefab construction site of Wootz Structures Pvt Ltd conducted for S8CE students on 17^th February 2025 organised by AMETOS Student Chapter

• A technical session on “Career opportunities in Public sector after Civil Engineering” handled by Mr. Gokul Ramanan, Assistant Professor, CIVILIANZ  organized by AMETOS and MoU partner CIVILIANZ SKILLZ on 25^th February 2025 for S8CE students

• National Science Day was celebrated and inaugurated by M. Chandradathan (Padmashri Awardee), Mentor to Chief Minister, Kerala and Former Director of ISRO Centres and Parvathy V. IIS, Director, central Bureau of Communication on 28^th February 2025 by ASCE and IEI Student chapters
• Civil Engineering Association, AMETOS organized a technical talk on “Permit drawing and the execution of plans on-site” handled by Chithra R S, Managing Director, Linear Infrastructure Solutions & Testing (P) Ltd.on 4^th March 2025 for S8CE students.
• MoU partner of the Civil Engineering Department BIMSLAB conducted an expert talk on the topic “A Focus To Finishing School” by CEO of BIMSLAB Sri Shiju Sasidharan, Technical Director, Sri Adarsh and General Manager Sri Mahesh to S8CE students on 10^th March 2025.
• A technical talk on “Architectural Building Design and Interior design with Decoration” on 11^th March 2025 by Ms. Rekha Rani (Chief interior design ) and team, RIIEC, TVM
• An International Symposium on “Sustainable Practices in Geotechnical Engineering” was organized by IGS Student Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering on 19^th March 2025- 21^st March 2025
• IEI student Chapter of Department of Civil Engineering organized “GEOBUILD 2025” was inaugurated by Dr. N. Unnikrishnan, Chairman, IGS Trivandrum Chapter on 20^th March 2025
• An expert talk on the topic “Career Aspects in Civil Engineering” was conducted for S8 students by Alumni of Civil Department, Roopak, Assistant Engineer, Manager, Engineering Design and Research centre, L & T construction, Chennai on 24^th March 2025 organised by AMETOS Student Chapter.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES DURING 2023-24

• As part of “International  Womens Day” a women empowering session by Lekshmi IES-CWE Airforce Southern Air Command Akkulam on the topic “Fighting Spirit in Silence- A true story of a young Geotechnical Engineer”.
• As a part of “World Water Day” an oath was taken to save water together for life and preservation of nature on 22^nd March 2024.
• A photography competition was conducted as a part of World Soil Day with the theme ‘SOIL, WATER - A SOURCE OF LIFE’ on 5th December 2023.
• A poster making competition was conducted  on the topic  "Importance of  Soil Conservation" from 5/12/2023 - 10/12/2023.
• A technical talk on "Advancements in Construction Technology" was conducted on 15^th December 2023. 
• As part of “Second International Conference in Civil Engineering for a Sustainable Planet” (ICCESP-2024), a logo and brochure release  was done by Adv. Chandy Oomen, honorable MLA and Dr. M. Abdul Rahiman, Director LBS centre for Science and Technology on 28^th February 2024.
• As part of World Engineering Day, a lecture was delivered by Dr. Samson Mathew, Director NATPAC on the theme “Engineering Solutions for a sustainable world” on 4^th March 2024.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES DURING 2022-23

• October 25 - Inauguration of M.Tech classes of 2022-24 batch by Rev.Fr.Sudheesh A Das, followed by a technical session by Ms.Venikrishna L V(BIMLABS Global)
• October 21 - M.Tech M3 students attended workshop on plaxis and geotextile testing at CET
• October 20 - Ms Nancy Christopher selected as Student Representative from ASCE International section - Region 10, India section , Southern region to the ASCE Student Presidential Group (SPG)

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES DURING 2021-22

• Technical talk on “Engineering the future – Industry Overview – Civil Engineering in Next 30 years” delivered by Mr Sreekanth APV, Executive Director, Infrastructure, Arcadis Asia – organized by IGS Student Chapter on June 18^th, 2021

• Webinar on GOOGLE MEET PLATFORM on “INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT – ROLE OF KERALA PWD” on 19^thJune, 2021 was delivered by Ms Darlene.C.D’Cruz, Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, Government of Kerala. This was organized by IEI CIVIL STUDENTS CHAPTER.

• Technical talk on “Structural Strengthening and Rehabilitation including Foundation Strengthening” organized by proposed ASCE student chapter in association with IEI student chapter, Marian Engineering College on 22nd June 2021. The expert was Mr S. Anwar Hussain, Rtd Deputy Chief Engineer, LSGD.

• Back to Campus – Alumni Interaction organized by Career and Cell Placement and Civil Department on July 2^nd, 2021–Er Nanma Gireesh , Co-founder NestAbide.

• July 15^th2021 - Department bids an emotional farewell to the CE 2017-2021 batch as they start a new Journey through MICROSOFT TEAMS meeting at 3pm.

• August 2, 2021- Department congratulate the exemplary performance B.Tech 2017-21 batch. 43 students score CGPA >8.0. 5 students with CGPA>9.0.

• MTech 2019-2021 batch Third semester exam results – 100 percent pass with 8 students securing SGPA 10 and three students securing SGPSA >9.0.

• Onam festival was celebrated by the staff of the Civil Engineering Department following the Covid protocols on 20^thAugust 2021.

• The inaugural meeting of the ASCE Student Chapter was conducted through google meet on 28 September 2021at 6.00 PM. 77 members were present for the program. The meeting started with the welcome address by Dr. Vinod. P (HOD, Civil Department). Dr Vinod welcomed Mr Narsimhachary Poloju, Mr Palanisamy , the special invitees from other student chapters, management of MEC, student office bearers of ASCE student chapter and student members of ASCE student chapter.

• Technical Session on Automating Construction through 3D printing - A technical talk was delivered on 28^thSeptember 2021by Mr. Sriram Ranganathan (Product manager and sales, Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions Pvt. Ltd) on the topic Automating Construction through 3D printing.

• Department of Civil Engineering organized a webinar for S7 and S4 students on 30^thSeptember 2021on Zoom platform on GATE exam titled “ALL ABOUT GATE 2022”.

• New Office bearersof IGS Student chapter for the year 2021-2022 assumes office on 5^thOctober 2021.

• Workshop for First year Civil Engineering Students titled “Know your College” – was organized in the Civil Department on 5^thNovember 2021. The workshop had following sessions – 1. Interaction with Alumni, 2. Talk by Er Nanma Gireesh, Translational Civil Engineer, Co-founder of NestAbide and a TEDx Speaker. 3.Familiarisational with clubs/associations etc and 4. Campus Visit.

• New office bearersof the Bhoomitrasena Club were eleted through Google Meet platform on 10^thNovember, 2021. Faculty-in-charge (Professor Deepthi Dennison, Prof. Pramod Raj TP (ME DEPARTMENT)). The student office bearers are :Secretary (Pradosh S Jayagopal), Programme Co-ordinator (Mary Julie) , Treasurer (Ansila S), S7 representative (Nikitha Joy), and S3 representative(Lekshmi S Sudharman).

• New Office bearers of the 2021-22 MEC IEI CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENT CHAPTER are Nancy Christopher- Convenor, 2. Bhavin Dev – Secretary, 3. Rency Benedict – Treasurer, 4. Arpit Purti – Media Coordinator, 5.Lekshmi S Sudharman - Second year Coordinator, 6 Muhammad Rizwan N – Fourth year Coordinator. The Faculty Coordinator is Prof. Abhijith RP.

• New Office bearers of the  2021 ASCE STUDENT CHAPTER MARIAN ENGINEERING COLLEGE are Nancy Christopher- Convenor, 2. Bhavin Dev – Secretary, 3. Rency Benedict – Treasurer, 4. • A Departmental Sendoff was organized on November 19, 2021on the occasion of Prof Archana Satheesh, who left the Department for prospects elsewhere.

• 22^ndNovember 2021– Inauguration of First year classes and induction programme.

• 29^thNovember 2021– Inaugural function of the new M.Tech batch organized at the Civil Department Seminar Hall. Dr Vinod Pdelivered a session “Research Methodology”.

• Inauguration of Vegetable Patche on World Soil Day by Rev Msgr. Wilfred E on 6^thDecember, 2021. This event was organized by the Indian Geotechnical Society – Marian Engineering College Student Chapter.

• Workshop on “Autodesk Revit” organized jointly by Marian IEDC and Department of Civil Engineering on December 20, 2021.

• TECHNICAL TALK TITLED “INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES – SESSION 1”JOINTLY ORGANISED BY IEI CIVIL STUDENTS CHAPTER AND ASCE STUDENT CHAPTER - This technical talk was delivered on 22-12-2021by Er. Rahul Leslie, Structural Engineer, Structural Design Unit, PWD. Er Rahul focused on the areas of earthquake resistant masonry construction.

• TECHNICAL TALK TITLED “INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES – SESSION 2”WAS JOINTLY ORGANISED BY IEI CIVIL STUDENTS CHAPTER AND ASCE STUDENT CHAPTER - This technical talk was delivered on 22-12-2021 by Er. Rahul Leslie, Structural Engineer, Structural Design Unit.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES DURING 2020-21

• NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INNOVATIONS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

The Department of Civil Engineering accomplished the task of conducting National Conference on Innovations in Civil Engineering-ICE-2021 on July 22nd and 23rd, 2021. This is the first conference conducted online by the department considering the pandemic situation. A total of 75 articles were selected after peer review for oral presentation under 5 different sub-themes covering core areas of civil engineering.

• 5-DAY ONLINE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME on  “DE-HAB DEMOLITION AND REHABILITATION OF STRUCTURES”

This Programme was sponsored by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.  Faculty members from colleges affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University attended this programme. The FDP was coordinated by Rani V, Assoc.Prof and Dr. Narayanan, Department of Civil Engineering

This five-day FDP provided comprehensive knowledge of the areas of demolition of buildings (methods of demolition and case studies, recycling of demolition waste and equipment used for recycling) as well rehabilitation of buildings (methods of rehabilitation and case studies). This programme included also the coverage of topics such as CRZ rules, building rules, conditions under which demolition of structures is required, structural design aspects considered during demolition of buildings, effective reuse of waste, evaluation of structural safety and rehabilitation of structures. The online FDP was conducted on Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.

• An expert talk on “Basics of Making Quality Concrete and Introduction to Green Concrete Concept” by Mr. Shyam Kumar Syama Prasad (CEO & Director, CETARC Pvt. Ltd.) was organized on 4th Feb 2020.

• MoU was signed with BIMLABS and EICL on 31st January 2020. The MoU aims to improve employability skills of faculty and students and provide an opportunity to the students to take up socially relevant projects.

• Gopalakrishnan Nair, Chairman, State Centre of IEI inaugurated the Civil Engineering student chapter of IEI [Institution of Engineers (India)] on 27^th January 2020. The inaugural session was followed by a technical talk on “Planning Design and Construction management of Signature Bridge, Delhi” by Er. Jose Kurian (Senior Advisor,KIIFB)

• MoUwere signed with UNO Technology Private Limited and Qcrete Ready-mix (INDIA) Pvt on 9^th January 2020. These MoUs aim to provide job oriented training to students and training for internship program/seminars/training respectively.

• The Department of Civil engineering organized expert talks by Mr. Unni Bhaskar (Managing director, UNO Technologies) and Ajith G Nair, Professor, RIT Kottayam on 7^th November 2019 at IEDC Seminar hall. Mr. Unni Bhaskar gave an explicit class on “Air traffic control cabin Construction” and Dr. Ajith G Nair gave a detailed session on “Coastal Protection structures, Waves and Ocean Currents.

• The Department of Civil Engineering organized “Research talks” for the M. Tech students from 5^th to 28^th November 2019, with faculties as resource persons. The presentations helped the students to refine their research topic and develop the presentation skills.

• “ONE STUDENT ONE TREE” Bhoomithra Sena Club initiative to plant trees in college premises was inaugurated by Dr. S Narayanan (HOD, Department of Civil Engineering) on 30^th August 2019.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS ORGANIZED IN 2019-20

• The Civil Department had arranged an industrial visit for VI semester students to Nellai Concrete, Product & Construction Company (P) Ltd., Gangaikondan, Tamilnadu (Sleeper Manufacturing Unit) on 4^th March 2020 as a part of their course on Design of Concrete Structures.

• The Civil Department arranged an industrial visit for VI semester students to Neyyar Dam on 15^th February 2020 as a part of their course Design of Hydraulic Structures.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES DURING 2018-19

• The Department of Civil Engineering organised National conference on Innovations in Civil Engineering (ICE 2019) on 11^th April, 2019. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Rajesh Chandran IRTS, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager. The main events of the conference included Keynote address by the Chief guests, Seminars, Invited Talks & Paper presentations by UG & PG students of the department as well as those from other institutions.

• As part of ICE 2019, poster presentation competition was held for final year M. Tech students on 12^th April 2019. Dr. Jaya V, HOD CE, GEC Bartonhill was the chief guest.

• The Department of Civil Engineering signed MoU with Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra on 7^th March 2019. MoU aims to provide training program to propagate construction practices and also to update recent developments in design and construction field and
  also assist students to submit projects to research funding organization for financial support.

• Civil Engineering Association in association with CAD DESK organized “Virtual reality show” for the faculties of Civil Department on 6^th February 2019.
• The planting of saplings in college campus was held as a part of Bhoomithra Sena club activities on 7^th January 2019. Very Rev. Msgr. Wilfred E (Manager), Prof. Tomy Michael (Director), Dr. Ruby Abraham (Principal) and Rev.Fr. Reny Rudolf (Bursar) led the planting of saplings.

• The Civil Engineering Association was inaugrated on 16^th October 2018 by Ar. P.B. Sajan, Joint Director, Costford. Ar. P.B. Sajan gave an expert talk on “Sustainable Buildings” for the students. As a part of inaugural ceremony, a photography exhibition was also organized by the students.

• As a part of the celebration of the World Ozone Day, the Department of Civil Engineering initiated Bhoomithra Sena club. The club is formed with support from Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Kerala. It aims at encouraging students to appreciate the environment and to react positively to environmental issues. Dr. D.Thankamony, Retired professor, CET inaugurated the Bhoomitra Sena Club on 17^th September 2018.

• The Department of Civil Engineering organized an expert talk session on ‘Development of Project Ideas’ for the VII semester students on 10^th September 2018. The sessions were handled by Dr.Thrivikramji.K.P, Director, Geoinformatics Division, Centre for Environment and Development (CED) and P. Reghukumar, Senior Design Engineer, CED and N.R. Chrips, Scientist, CED.

• In August 2018 floods, a team of Civil Engineering faculties visited flood affected areas at Ayroor Grama Panchayat, Pathanamthitta for technical help on 30^th August 2018.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS ORGANIZED IN 2018-19

• IGS organized a site visit to Green Field Stadium, Karyavattom on 9^th February 2019 for IGS student members.

• The Civil Department had arranged an industrial visit for VII semester students to Trivandrum Central Railway Station 28^th November 2018 as part of their course Transportation Engineering I.

• Bhoomitra Sena Club organized an environmental field trip for club members of VII semester on 4^th November 2018 to Kollakal Thapovanam, 4.5 acres ancestral property transformed artificial dense forest.

• IGS organized an industrial visit to Vaigai Dam, Kodaikanal from 8^th -11^th November 2018 for the M.Tech students.
